What is Facial Trauma?

Facial trauma includes injuries to the bones, skin, and soft tissues of the face, often caused by accidents, falls, sports injuries, or violence. At Mattydale Oral and Facial Surgery, we specialize in diagnosing and treating facial injuries with precision, compassion, and a focus on both function and aesthetics.

Our team is highly trained in managing a wide range of facial trauma cases, from minor cuts and fractures to complex injuries involving the jaw, cheekbones, nose, and eye sockets.

Types of Facial Injuries We Treat:

Facial bone fractures (jaw, cheek, nose, or orbital bones)

Lacerations and soft tissue injuries

Dental trauma (knocked-out or broken teeth)

Jaw dislocations or fractures

Injuries from car accidents, sports, or falls

What to Expect

Treatment varies depending on the type and severity of the injury. Minor injuries may be managed with stitches or splints, while more complex cases may require surgery to realign fractured bones or restore function. How are Oral and Facial Injuries Treated?

Your treatment will be tailored to your specific needs, with some injuries managed in our office and others best treated at a hospital or surgical facility. We begin by assessing your age, the nature and severity of your trauma, and the location of the injury to create a personalized treatment plan. We’ll also discuss any medical conditions, current medications, and health concerns. After running diagnostics, we’ll design a plan to restore the function and appearance of your face, jaw, and mouth. For more complex cases, we may collaborate with your dentist or other specialists to provide comprehensive care. To ensure your comfort, we’ll review sedation options available in our office.

What Can I Expect During Facial Trauma Recovery?

Recovery will depend on your specific injury and treatment. After your procedure, our team will provide post-operative instructions to support proper healing of incision sites. If additional treatment is needed, we’ll schedule follow-up appointments to remove any stabilization devices and monitor your progress. For certain traumas, we may work with a restorative dentist or other specialists to address cosmetic and functional needs. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions during your recovery.

Is Maxillofacial Trauma Care Covered by Insurance?

Insurance coverage varies by plan, as this procedure is often considered medically necessary. Our Insurance Specialist Team will contact your provider to confirm and review your specific coverage, then provide an estimate and discuss your payment options. To ensure our patients receive the care they need, we offer convenient payment plans and accept financing through CareCredit® and Lenders Club. CareCredit features an easy application with a soft credit check that doesn’t affect your credit score, allowing multiple financing companies to compete to support your healthcare investment.
